BASF Aktiengesellschaft

BASF leads the world as Catamold delivers the right results for customers big and small. From its early start around 1970, Powder Injection Molding technology has made huge progress.

Among headline trends are the increased availability of reproducible, reasonably priced high-quality powders, the development of more efficient and better controllable binder systems. Together with a better understanding of the process, they have allowed PIM to become an established manufacturing technology for mass scale net-shape production of metal and ceramic parts.

BASF, as solution provider for Powder Injection Molding technology, is proud to have made a substantial contribution to performance improvement, reputation and acceptance of PIM.

Its revolutionary feedstock system, Catamold, based on the patented principles of catalytic debinding, has become the world-leading PIM technology making many PIM customers throughout the world successful in their fields.

Catamold is, first of all, a validated and specified granulate ready for use, delivering reliable and reproducible products with superior performance. The technology is successfully employed by both small-scale and large-scale customers spread across the world.

The wide Catamold product assortment, ranging from metals - including several low alloy steels, stainless steels, tool steels, soft magnetic alloys, high alloy steels, superalloys, tungsten and titanium - to ceramics, including alumina and zirconia.

BASF Catamold is in the end much more than just a granulate. It is a comprehensive technical package, which includes an all-round technical support, ranging from material selection to part and mold design; from pilot runs to troubleshooting for the start-up and the regular production; from technology training to product development together with the customers.
