The Society of Arts and Crafts is dedicated the advancement of craft and to the livelihood of craft artists. SAC's programming and philosophy directly support the advancement of and excellence in craft.

The Artist Award Programs grant artists exhibiting excellence in their craft cash awards as well as an exhibition in the SAC gallery. SAC's gallery is located in Boston's Back Bay in the gallery district on Newbury Street. The gallery occupies two floors, with a retail gallery on the first floor and an exhibition gallery on the second.

Boston's only dedicated craft exhibition space features four exhibitions annually. An open and eclectic philosophy allows SAC to exhibit emerging and established artists, introduce new craft forms, and embrace exhibitions that would not generally be considered in commercial venues.


The majority of SAC's programs are an effective source of income and exposure for craft artists from all over the United States, contributing to the livelihood of craft artists.

Artist may apply for jury to consign in the retail gallery. Artists are selected though jury and curation to exhibit and consign work in the exhibition gallery.

CRAFTBOSTON, SAC's high-end juried craft show, is an opportunity for artists to sell work, receive show awards, give lectures and network with artists, collectors, enthusiasts and museum administrators.

New artists may apply to be a part of the SAC mentor program, where they will learn how to effectively market their work and participate in high-end craft shows. The mentor program participants become exhibitors at CRAFTBOSTON where they receive a subsidized booth.

The Society of Arts and Crafts serves both craft artists and the craft audience. SAC is the meeting point for two essential parts of the craft equation, makers and buyers, without one another, and without common ground neither could exist.
