Pewabic Pottery is a multifaceted ceramic education center and national historic landmark. Pewabic's programs and services to the community include active and growing design and fabrication, exhibition, museum (historical), and education programs.

Since its beginnings in 1903 under the direction of founder mary chase stratton, the pottery has fabricated and marketed architectural tiles for public and private installations, gift and commemorative tiles, and vessels. The pottery is renowned for its unique glazes and hand crafted beauty. Each pewabic piece is the personal work of an artist using traditional methods that incorporates historic and contemporary designs.

Educational programming offered by pewabic pottery is expansive with classes for all ages. Educational opportunities include workshops, lectures, internships, and residency programs for studio potters and other artists, as well as outreach programs, hands-on workshops, summer apprenticeships, and onsite and offsite classes structured to provide unique educational opportunities to students.

The artist exhibition series at pewabic pottery is a 22-year-old program that showcases ceramic works by more than 50 nationally and internationally recognized artists in changing exhibitions throughout the year.

The goal of the exhibition series is to show the best in contemporary clay to students, artists, and the general public. pewabic's gift galleries feature functional and decorative work of 50 national ceramic artists year-round. In addition, a wide selection of the pottery's own handcrafted wares are available in the pewabic museum store and also at selected galleries and museum stores nationwide.

In 2006, pewabic pottery served 6,500 youth onsite thru hands on workshops, partnerships with detroit public schools, and after school programming. we also served 1,000 adult students through on-site ceramic art classes and workshops.
