My name is Mieke Scholten. I am a ceramist. I work in my own atelier and make scales, vaes and sculptures. Fore more than ten years I am engaged in making art. I have had some exhibitions in my own village and hore to break through in the future.

I give the creation-to-be an awful lot of thought. Ideas develop and are sometimes entrusted to paper by a simple sketch. But also during working good forms are created. I am continously looking for a characteristic addition to the form. This can consist of adding a different material e.g. zinc, lead or some other materials. But it ca also be composed of the contrats of forms with either a rough or smooth surface, or a special glaze.

In order to make what I envisage I always encounter the clay. With the utmost vigilance I look at the essence of my work and my goals. But style presercation and search for the prefect form and glaze remain my biggest challenge.

Once I read somewhere:
"It is better to fail in originality than to succeed in imitation"

I feel this statement is very much appropriate for the way I do my work as a ceramist.
