Claartje Borren is a ceramic designer. She works with clay, paperclay and china. Usually objects are hand-formed, sometimes functional, very fragile and always unique.

Besides the handbuilt objects she makes cast ware. These series consists of unique items too. Cast in selfmade moulds. After careful drying her work is biscuit fired and after the first fire it is partly glazed and sometimes luster is used to get certain effects.

The work is fired to various temperatures depending on material and complexity. Nature is her main source of inspiration with it's fine detailed patterns, complex constructions and surprises in structure, skin, pattern and rythm are keywords.

Making something beautiful out of a formless lump of clay is her main drive. Claartje works from her own small studio in a rural area surrounded by lakes close to amsterdam. Because her objects often take more than a month work before she's satisfied with the result, claartje has often one show a year, sometimes two.
