Inge Simonis ontwerpstudio
Inge Simonis ontwerpstudio produces small series or unique pieces as relationgift. The art of Inge Simonis is of a characteristic austere design. In her works, functionality allways is the starting point and Simonis playfully explores various applications of this concept.
An example Simonis created ceramic dishes that was not tied to one place, but could both be used to be eaten from and to be put on the wall as a decorative statement.
Her current work focusses on exploration and research into new possibilities of the specific attributes of ceramics. The exploration is done along themes, one of which is the recurrent theme of nature, including man-made or man-designed nature. There are perforated plates that refer to the universe, heavens and the galaxy and which promise the user a heavenly meal.
There is an object that looks like it has floated up from the bottom of the seas, with the suggestion that it could maybe be used as a stool.
Simonis' lengthy explorations of the processes of change of shape have resulted in a artistic language that has become more and more abstract over the years.
Her work is developing constantly towards new shapes, with extraordinary applications of glazing. The viewer is always tempted to look at her objects once more and to reflect on it in merriment.
