Earth - Lilach Mileikowski

Contemporary ceramic artist. Earth studio is situated in the suburb of South Caulfield, Melbourne. My ceramic work varies from sculpture & manipulated wheel-work to slabbed tiles.

Some slab pieces are incorporated with copper sheeting. The clay surface is treated by application of oxides, under glazes & printing techniques. The pieces are fired to stoneware temperature.

Glazing is another adventurous component in my creative process as I develop and mix them myself. The work is fired a number of times until it reaches the desired result. Hand forming and wheel forming are employed simultaneously in the creative process. Some pieces will be an incorporation of slab building and wheel throwing elements.

Most of the wheel thrown pieces will have hand built additions to them. Some of my sculptures precipitate the use of paper clay for the creation of more complex forms, and require the continuous drying of the figure with a fire torch during the building process. As the composition forms, I am able to add soft clay to the leather-hard shape.

My work evolves endlessly and reflects the essence of my passions.
