Sabine Brunner Pop Art Ceramics
Whimsical ceramic artwork using rich colors to brighten up rainy days. My work always has a happy feel to it and is strongly influenced by Japanese Pop culture and can be described as 'Kawaii', a Japanese term which translates to cute or adorable. Cuteness has become a nearly universally esteemed aspect of Japanese culture which has become to fascinate me.
Other influences for the playful feel come from artists such as Niki de Saint Phalle for her colorful Nanas, Romero Britto for his bold colors. But I also get inspired by the beauty of the California nature, and my love for animals, especially my cat and adorable German dog. Currently my studio is located in my Lafayette, California home, where my work is entirely built by hand which makes every piece very unique.
I like to see where my fingers have been, the dents and prints which make my pieces special. My work takes the form of bowls, cups, teapots and various Pop Art Sculptures.
It's my goal to make unique pieces that people can use and enjoy - whimsical art that makes people look and smile.
