I studied sculpture at Falmouth School of Art (BA Hons degree in Fine Art (Sculpture) followed by a post graduate year at Leicester University prior to teaching art for almost twenty years.
I have a a keen interest in the history of ceramics and in particular the very earliest periods from Neolithic and early Bronze Age, through the beginnings of European civilization and Celtic and Cycladic Art. Living in Orkney with it's strong associations with pre-history has been an important factor, and all of these influences can be seen.
I established the pottery workshop in 1989 and over the years I have contributed to numerous exhibitions, including London, Paris and many galleries around the UK. I continue to participate in several exhibitions each year. My work is also included in many notable private collections in the UK, France, Germany, Scandinavia, Italy, Spain, USA, Australia and Canada.
To check availability of work, commission a piece or find out more, please get in touch. If you come to Orkney you are very welcome to visit the Pottery, where you can meet John, see the latest work out of the kiln and have the opportunity to purchase pots before they make it to the galleries or website! Phoning first is recommended but not essential.
